Exponent Bureau,August 1: Ever since the government in Delhi has announced the reservation and grant of ST status to Pahari speaking people in Jammu and Kashmir ,the tussle and war of words haven’t stopped between the Schedule tribe community and Pahadi Kabila, a name which has begun resonating from then onwards. The people in the state are skeptical about the intentions of the government to further divide the vote bank and vow voters towards BJP but government is affirming repeatedly that Pahadi speaking people deserve the ST status on the basis of parameters established by constitution and law of the land. The widening gap between the two communities and the anguish of Tribal community seems not ending owing to the fact that widespread agitation are being witnessed across the region. The tribal community asserts that BJP is only playing the divisive politics without taking in to considerations the basis of tribal status. Amidst the war of words and protest in every district of Jammu and Kashmir by the Gujjar and tribal community , another region of the erstwhile state have begun raising their voices for reservations over the same parameters which been applied over Pahadi Qabila. A number of press conferences ,silent marches ,statements, articles and social media write ups have cropped up demanding seperate reservation for Chenab valley people. A group of young people ,writers ,social media influencers gathered at press club Jammu holding banners and placards to demand separate reservation quota for the people of Chenab valley on the basis of their distinct culture, ethnicity , indigenous language and unique cultural moorings which itself meets the criteria that has been applied to Pahadi Qabila. While talking to the media , writer and social activist sadaqat Malik who was leading the gathering explained in detail the indigenous cultural values ,demography , locational disabilities and dwellings of the people of Chenab valley which include Doda ,Bhadarwah ,kishtwar ,Ramban Regions of erstwhile Doda district .The indigenous linguistic groups of Bhaderwahi, kishtwari,Takri, sarazi, and numerous other vernacular dialectics constitute the demographic composition of the vast Chenab valley. The other group of youth from Bhallesa area of district Doda led by Sanjay Manhas ,a social and political activist while addressing the media said that apart from indigenous culture people in Chenab valley live in a mountainous and treacherous terrain which couldn’t excel or take benefits of development in the last seven decades due to poorty ,lack of accessibility to resources and education have lagged behind in comparison to other regions of the state. The step motherly attitude of successive governments and lack of leadership pushed behind the people of Chenab valley to further dejection and exploitation. “Keeping in view the facts , we people deserve separate reservation so that out youth could also benefit from the era of development” ,said Sanjay Manhas. A group of lawyers and media fraternity while raising their concern Said that Chenab valley has always been exploited and pushed behind by successive governments over false promises and unfulfilled commitments. A movement of Chenab valley Hill development council which was begun by few enlighten citizens and leading social activists of Chenab valley was crushed and pushed in oblivion by government ever since it began voicing and demanding a separate hill development council in 90s on the patter of Ladakh for its proper development.Neither separate division nor a hill council was ever given to Chenab valley which shows apathetic attitude of the successive governments, said a senior lawyer Khurshid Dev from kishtwar bar association. Similar voices are being raised from every corner of Chenab valley demanding a separate reservation Quota on the patter of ST and Pahadi Qabila pattern to end this decades old exploitation of Chenab valley. The youth said that they are launching a state wide agitation for their demand so that deaf ears could hear their voices of justice and politicians could rise up from their deep slumber.
