Nawazuddin Siddiqui has arrived these days to attend the Cannes Film Festival. According to Nawaz, for him, this film festival is no less than a Mecca. Nawaz shares his memory related to Cannes with us. Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is attending Cannes these days. Nawaz's association with Cannes has been a long one.
Do you have a special memory about the Cannes festival that you can't forget?
This was my fondest memory related to Cannes. Once I went to three films here. Monsoon Shootout, Lunch Box, and Bombay Talkies. All three of my teams were standing on the red carpet. I had a very funny story. I walked with the first team, then ran back to the second team, and then after walking with them, I immediately returned to the third standing team. I had walked the Cannes red carpet thrice in a day. People standing there were also wondering why this guy is running so much, later they came to know that he is a part of all three films. The second memory is also from the same year that it was a matter of pride for the whole country that three-three films from one country were participating. Because the Cannes festival talks about cinema and going three-three films from our country was really a proud thing.
What was your feeling when you walked the Cannes red carpet for the first time? were nervous?
I was not nervous but I definitely realized that for the first time there was such a scene, where only and only cinema is being talked about. Talks about the independent films of the world. No one was talking about box office collections here, only cinema and art films were being discussed. There was talk of artistic expression, which used to give me great comfort.
You have a long association with Cannes. How connected do you feel?
When actors' films come here, they feel connected to this land. When the film of my direction will come, and the whole world will see it, its feeling will be different. I consider Cannes to be the Mecca of cinema. Every artist feels that he has a home here. The thing I am most associated with or like is cinema. When such legends and lovers of cinema meet on one platform, there is a magical atmosphere.
How strong is India's claim in international festivals like Cannes?
Our country is the country of honor this year. It is a matter of pride for all of us Indians. But alas, this year we did not have any film from here, which was selected. See, people get confused, let me tell you that anyone can premiere films here. You can also bring your film here and get it premiered, it is not a big deal. It is important to understand that the official selection process that a film goes through at Cannes is a pride for the country. The value of officially selected films at Cannes matters.
